Katie McGrain has laid down some smokin’ runs at the WB Ranch and was a contender last year for the Best of the Best win. This year she’s back after losing no momentum all year. This duo is HOT to watch, and just may be a good bid in the calcutta!
Tell us about the horse you’re running.
Maggie is a 9-year-old AQHA mare. She is by Quickstraw and Six Moon magic. Her Registered Name is Quik Six N The Straw.
What’s your biggest win this year and of all time?
Maggie’s biggest win this year I would have to say is the Michigan All district show. I was very proud of her that night after winning the warm up and the Open. Maggie’s biggest win of all time would probably be last year at the WB Ranch when we ran our fastest time there at the NBHA 08 Money Maker.
What is your ultimate goal in barrel racing?
My ultimate goal in Barrel Racing is to run well at the Congress this year, hopefully make it back to the finals in the sweeps, and to continue to have fun and enjoy the sport.
What saddle do you ride?
I ride in a Circle Y Saddle.
What bit is in your horse’s mouth?
Maggie runs in a twisted wire O ring.
What supplements do you feed?
The supplements I feed are Racing performance and Digestive aid from DAC feeds, and Equine Mega O Mega.
What won’t you leave home for a barrel race without?
When I leave home for a barrel race most important thing I make sure I remember is Maggie’s bridle! If I forget anything else I can usually manage, I am Just happy to remember my saddle Bridle tack feed, horse etc.….
To whom do you owe most of your success?
I owe most of my success to Kelly Bowser and Danielle Harrop For selling me such a great horse, and all the advice they have given me to help me succeed with her. Also my Family, My Dad, My Mom and Frank, Thanks for always supporting me!
Tell us one fun fact about you or your horse.
One fun fact about Maggie is that she is really hard to catch, and she loves playing mother to my 2 year old. She is always loving, and makes me smile everyday.
What charity is closest to your heart?
The charity that is closest to my heart is Rhett Syndrome Foundation. A member from my family has Rhett syndrome, and the foundation has given them lots of support throughout the years.
